Step 1: To remove the worn adapter, first drive out the existing wedge from the bottom upward with a standard removal tool and a hammer. Remove the C-clamp and slide the adapter off the lip. If the old adapter is wedged onto the lip, you may need to use a hammer to break it loose before it can be removed. Step 2: Before installing the new adapte, a thorough inspection of the lip must be performed. Use the following guidelines for inspection and repair of the existing bucket lip.
Step 3: If
the lip is in good condition, or if it has been rebuilt to manufacturers
specifications, then you can proceed with the installations of a new adapter.
Step 4: Insert the small end of the wedge in front of the C-clamp. If the wedge is fluted, then the flutes must face and match those of the C-clamp. Drive the wedge into the opening with a 12 to 20 pound hammer until the wedge is locked and can move no further. Step5: Check the tightness of the wedges regularly. Loose wedges can lead to adapter loss or the danger of premature failures. After the initial installation, it is recommended that you tighten the wedges every 2 to 4 hours. This should be done until no looseness remains. Burn off any portion of the wedge that may be extending below the adapter. This will prevent it from being knocked loose during digging. Step 6: If the wedge you are using drives in flush with the top of the adapter, you should use the next larger available wedge. Please check the Tooth, Adapter and Hardware Cross Reference Charts for proper adapter and wedge designations. |
